Home Repairs for Accessible and Independent Living

(H-RAIL)

Overview

The Edgewater Community Council (ECC) HRAIL Program is a City of Chicago Department of Housing contract that assists seniors through the application process, makes on-site assessments to determine service needs, and provide limited home improvements at no cost to applicants. The HRAIL program provides free home repairs including safety, security and accessibility improvements that better assist seniors in remaining in their homes.

 

Types of Repairs



The types of repairs are limited and mainly minor. They may include, but are not limited to, grab bars, lever faucets, window/door repairs, floor repairs, wall repairs, sink repair, stair repairs, bathroom adjustments, carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors.

 

Eligibility



The ECC HRAIL Program is for senior citizens of Chicago who earn no more than 80% of the median income, adjusted for family size (please click on Income Limits), and are at least 60 years of age. Qualified recipients may live in a single-family home, condominium, or an apartment building with no more than four units. Renters must have written permission of the landlord.
