Lollapalooza

Citywide music festival. Be sure to visit Green Street, the festival’s eco-education destination. Biodiesel generators will power all the light towers on the site.

National Night Out

Send a strong message to criminals to stay away from Edgewater and off of our streets.  Fire performance by SPUNN, best anti-crime sign contest, refreshments, and community tables – including additional information from Edgewater Beautiful.  Sponsored by the Edgewater Community Council, CAPS, State Representative Harry Osterman, Edgewater Athletic Club, and Edgewater Block Clubs.

New Edgewater Firehouse Dedication

Celebrate the completion of the city’s first “green” firehouse, complete with solar panels and other environmentally friendly amenities.  Date will be dependent on the availability of Mayor Daley.

2008 County Fair Harvest Competition

Amateur and “expert” gardeners are welcome to enter their herbs, fruits, vegetables, and flowers, and more!   This event will also highlight GreenNet Chicago’s exciting One Seed Chicago project, by giving this year’s seed, the Sunflower, its very own competition category.

Edgewater Gateway Gardening

Join with others who are interested in helping beautify these highly visible parcels of land in the center of Edgewater. All levels of gardening experience are welcome.

 

Weekdays, June 30 through August 8 – from 11 AM to 5 PM

Growing 2008-Bricolage

Bricolage installation at Bryn Mawr under Lake Shore Drive.  This year’s 185 foot long mosaic mural on the south wall will complement the north wall’s “Living 2007” Bricolage. Join other community members in creating a large, significant public art work.

 

Second Thursday of the Month - 10 to 11 AM, at 6044 North Broadway

The Edgewater Beautiful Monthly Meeting Join us on the second Thursday of each month for a lively discussion of beautification and environmental events and opportunities. All are welcome!

 

Fourth Thursday of the Month, - 7 to 10 PM, at Uncommon Ground, 1401 West Devon

Green Room

Monthly environmental gathering in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Join local environmental activists and city-wide organizations to focus on the selected topic of the month.

Located at Glenlake and Broadway, next to True Nature Foods, 6034 North Broadway – this year will feature an extended array of locally grown produce and other interesting items.

ONGOING GREENING SERVICES

 

Single Stream Recycling Drop-Off Center at 49th Ward Streets and Sanitation – 6441 North Broadway.

Drop off paper, plastics, glass, and metals – all commingled in a single recycling stream. This is a convenient way to recycle for those who live a one to four unit residence not yet serviced by the city’s Blue Cart program, and for all who live in larger buildings that are not part of the city’s expanding Blue Cart recycling program,
