Care for Real

Overview

Care for Real’s mission is to help our neighbors in the Edgewater community by providing food, clothing and counseling services to those in need.

We do this through on-site food distribution, deliveries to the homebound, a free clothes closet and a case management program to help clients connect with other services
they may need.

Our clients include seniors on fixed incomes that haven’t kept pace with inflation, people who have lost their jobs or their overtime and can no longer make ends meet, refugees who are trying to make a new start in this country and families who can’t stretch their paychecks to cover all their food costs. They are of every race, religion, age and educational background. Approximately 60% of those we help feed are either seniors or children under the age of 18. 

By helping our neighbors get the food they need, we are fostering a stronger, healthier and more stable Edgewater community.

Funding

Care for Real is an independently funded and independently managed program of the Edgewater Community Council.  We rely on the generosity of neighbors and the efforts of dedicated volunteers to operate.  Care for Real receives no government funding for ongoing food purchases. Rather, we are funded through cash and in-kind donations plus grants from individuals, the religious community, businesses and foundations.

In addition to monetary donations, we accept donations of dry food, canned goods, clothing and household items.  Without these donations, we would not be able to serve thousands of our neighbors each year.

Donations may be dropped off at Care for Real, 6044 N. Broadway from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm Monday through Friday and from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 pm on Saturday.  Please call ahead to ensure someone is there to help you unload.  

All donations to Care for Real are tax deductible and will make a real difference in the lives of the neighbors we serve.
